Almost Done
Movie editing software is getting easier and easier to use. Thankfully, I am not on the technical side of DOT or I would be really far behind, but all this practice is making me a little more tech savvy with the software. After creating a digital story about the history of communications technology, I believe I can now handle just about anything that presentations have to offer.
Day Three
Today we talked about dealing with difficult teachers; you know, the ones who don't want to use technology. Although I can understand their reticence, I think they need to understand that children should be exposed to technology as early as possible. These days, technology is evolving constantly, and the earlier children are exposed to it, the more likely they are going to be able to keep up with it.

Another day and a Movie
Today seemed liked a really busy day. After we learned about Google Docs and Google Earth, we started a new project that at first seemed a little daunting. We were assigned by the trainers to create a short video project on our computers, but I had never used a computer to produce a movie before. Despite being hesitant because of my lack of experience, I was lucky enough to have a really solid group of people to work with on the project.
The assignment for our group was to produce a video about presenting our professional self. After brainstorming a bit and defining what "professional self" meant to us, Kevin, Andrew, Carolyn, Matt and I tackled to task at hand. Instead of making a sterile presentation using archived images and basic explanations of what we thought professionalism would look like, we decided to have fun with the video and create a series of vignettes.
As it turned out, we did a pretty good job.

Ist Day Reflections
I have learned so much today, it's hard to recall everything that we covered. Not only did I get better at audio recording and editing, but I also learned how to post a podcast on my blog. For the rest of the year, I hope I can be as productive as we were today in our training session. The blog we created today should be helpful to keep up contact with the teachers and students when we get into schools, so I guess our training has really gotten us going in the right direction.
DOT 2010-2011
I'm starting my second year with DOT, and I hope I can build on the skills that I developed last year working in Jefferson Parish. There is no denying it; technology skills need to be honed at an earlier age than ever before, and DOT's mission is to make sure that students in Recovery School District do not fall behind. My goal is to help both students and teachers utilize different technologies to not only enhance their classroom lessons, but also to develop computer skills and technology familiarity.
Originally, I am from Texas, but being in New Orleans never leaves me homesick. Getting a chance to work in the school system here is a great opportunity, and I want to be sure that my technology skills are put to good use helping out students in the schools of my community.
